One Year Ago
One year ago today, we found ourselves in the oncology clinic for what we thought was just a blood transfusion because Ella's hemoglobin was low. But when they took her blood that day, they saw the dreaded leukemia cells that we had been waiting to rear their ugly head. Instead of going home that night, we were sent over to the hospital where Ella stayed for the next 28 days. It is almost sureal to imagine that it has been a year since that day already. Of course I am so thankful that she remains cancer free at this time and I can only hope that before too long, we will be celebrating one year of her being cancer free and then hopefully five years etc.I know this blog has been sort of neglected lately, but as I come back to it, I can't help but remember how important this blog and all of my dear blog friends were to me during all those months spent in the the hospital. I am forever grateful to everyone who was able to visit in person but also equally so to those of you who were there with me in spirit and with their supportive words. Thank you!! And, please, every once in a while, would you mind saying a prayer for Ella and that she continues to remain cancer free!!

ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine what the past 365 days have been like for both of you! I am so glad that I've gotten to know both of you and even my grandma still asks about Ella every time I see her. She is a precious little girl!

Your daughter is beautiful! I happened across your blog from another mom's writings...
ReplyDeleteMy daughter's name is Ella Gayle, and she also has Down syndrome (as well as the dress in your top pic of this post lol). My Ella got her names from her grandmothers (though I'd thought about naming her Grace instead of Gayle!). She and her sister Olivia Johanna were born 4/15/10.
I wish you and your family continued good health and happiness, and may our Ellas continue to bring us daily smiles and joy!

ReplyDeleteYES... I will say a prayer for your sweet Ella! Oh my... and I thought I had a full plate. I came across your blog because, as a mother of a child with physical and learning disabilities… I am always interested in hearing the stories of others and how they have coped with raising a ‘special’ child. I recently saw a film called ‘Dakota’s Pride’ which showed the MANY wonderful blessings children with Down syndrome bring to this world. I can’t even express to you how moved I was by this film! I was amazed by all of their accomplishments… one young man with Down syndrome even graduated from college, drives his own car and is an advocate for other adults with Down syndrome! I know you get to experience these many wonders on a daily basis, but I thought I would share a clip from the video… I give it two thumbs up… way up!!!
