Food

I think I have mentioned before that Ella has no interest in eating any form of solid food. She will take a bite or two and then makes a sour face and wants NO MORE!! I admit that I haven't been the most persistent in continuing to try to make her eat but I would occasionally try and still have the same results. I have been pushing for the regional center to provide her with an OT. I need someone to show me techniques for teaching her to eat as I know nothing about it. I finally got approval but getting someone to my house is a whole other ball game. They said we could bring her into the clinic (an hour away) for her initial eval. Next available appointment......Mid-July!!! Hence, I will be looking in to using our personal health insurance to get us started earlier. Thankfully, the OT I spoke to on the phone when making the appointment gave me a few hints for getting her started on being interested in food. She told me to just put some food (anything pureed, or just yogurt) on her tray with no expectations that she will do anything besides make a mess!! For anyone who knows me, this was hard. I really struggled with her getting food all over her seat, her hair etc. But I had to let it go for the greater good!! So these are some pics of our first attempt. She played with it some, even stuck her hand in her mouth once and was shocked by the new taste of her hand. She still made the pucker face. And of course....she HAD to stick her hands in her hair....YUCK!!!!

Good for you!! I can totally relate to the mess factor. I am supposed to be letting Joel feed himself with a spoon now but I HATE the mess he makes. He can throw that spoon pretty far!

I hope you like the OT and that she is able to help Ella!

I never used to let my kids in their high chair and eat themselves, no way was I going to clean up that mess. Thankfully we don't do that because he can't eat by mouth.
Love the piggy tail. So cute.

So funny about her getting messy, I'm the same way, I hate my girls to make a big mess when they eat! I know that had to be hard for you!

Oh my how I feel your pain about them getting messy! I would NEVER let my girls get messy. Justin loves to eat, but he will not hold anything on his own. Including his bottle. I really should look into other therapies. All we have him in is the Early Intervention program and sometimes I don't feel that's enough. She does look like a doll with her cute pony tail!

I think it's great...you let her make all the messes in the world...if that's what it takes to get her to eat...you go girl! Yeah, we need to start doing the same as Preslie is as just as interested as sweet Ella. Our girls will get it...messes and all! I have yet to see my OT too! :( Did you see, I finally posted bout meeting Ella...finally! Im gettin there! ;)

Ella has the greatest smile ever. She just lights up the room with that grin. Good luck with the food and I hope the mess doesn't get the best of you.

My son also has no interest in anything other than a bottle. We just started seeing a speech therapist who is helping address the feeding issues we have. On our first visit she got him to eat and entire jar of baby food. She used this thing called the z-vibe. It looks like a pen but it vibrates and has different attachmennts (a spoon is one of them). We have only used it once, but it might be something you want to look into! By the way Ella is soooo cute!

I can't believe you can't get services quicker. That's absurd!!!! Your state doesn't have early intervention services that have to respond within a certain amount of time??? I mean this is about EATING!!!! Argh. Good luck.

Such cute pictures!

I've heard of other people going private too because EI just wasn't meeting thier needs. I hope it all works out for Ella.

Hi there! I followed your blog for a while and for some reason I could not get it to load on my computer until tonight. LOL!! So now I need to try to catch up some. Of course little Ella is just a little doll! she has a cute little smile and looks like a very happy baby!

It could be possible that Ella is just not ready for table like foods. Sorry but I cannot remember if she is eating baby food or not, but if she is not: Then you might want to try some rice cereal (Gerbers in the jar) with bananas or some sort of baby food fruit. You bet I would be feeding these too her myself too. I would not like the mess either. LOL!!
After a while on baby food she should decide she likes to eat other foods too. Some babies just like the baby food stuff for some reason that I sure cannot figure out. LOL!!

Good luck! and thanks for sharing with us!

Love,
Sheila
