The Great Escape Artist

Here is an example of terrible parenting!!! Yesterday afternoon, my husband and I were sitting on the couch talking, Abbey was doing homework at the kitchen table and Emma and my nephew were in an out of the house with the neighbor girl. Ella was just doing her thing roaming around the house. Then the doorbell rings…..it is one of the neighbor kids telling us that Ella is sitting on the driveway!!!! Uh…oh!!! We go out there and sure enough there she is. You see, we have a screen door on our front door but it isn’t an automatic spring closed kind and since it was such a beautiful day out, (sorry for those of you in the rest of the country that are freezing right now) we had the front door open and were just using the screen door. Well, apparently when one of the kids went out, the screen didn’t get closed all the way. So during Ella’s adventures around the house, she must have noticed the escape route and went for it. We did find evidence. A baggie of little toys that she had been dragging around with her was found at the door …left behind for much bigger adventures. Of course, we were impressed by her willingness to adventure out but then I started getting caught up in the “what ifs”….scary!!! Thankfully she had her guardian Angel with her!!!

Also, I got a video of her cruising along the couch. I can’t believe how she all of a sudden figured it out!!!

**note...obviously I didn't get these pictures the first time she escaped. I had to do a re-enactment and of course leaving the door ajar...she went right for it!!

There she goes

She"s gone..around the corner to the driveway!!

Look at that big girl cruising down the couch! Way to go Ella! Also, I am happy Ella was safe in the driveway and that you now know she is a little escape artist, but I am so happy that she has it in her to venture out on her own! Look out :)

Happy to hear that Ella is safe and sound! But I must say...Wow! Ella, look at you go! I just love seeing this independence! What will she do next...a new year for new discoveries! ENJOY!

Great job getting around Ella! They always seem to find the perfect moment to pull their little tricks.

I have definitely had my moments where I wasn't the best parent in the world. Glad she was fine. Also way,way jealous of the nice weather!

Scott lost Cooper when he was about 22 months old too, our neighbor girl brought him home, Scott had no clue he was gone! I was furious with him but it is so easy for something like that to happen! However, the good thing is is that her motor skills are on an upswing for sure!

Wow. That is scary. Thankfully, the neighbor kid was there to let you know. Can imagine how you would have freaked if you would have discovered her gone. Holy moly!

Love the cruising video. She is going to take off walking. Except, I bet she learns to run really quickly. Good luck keeping up with her.

Go Ella!

oh my goodness...so glad her angels were watching over her. i think our little ones have a team of angels watching over them! and YAH FOR CRUISING. it's so weird, things just click for them and it comes out of no where. you work and work on getting them to do something and then one day they decide to do it and it's like they've been doing it forever.

We had to put up a $3 hotel latch from Home Depot to keep Piper in :)

Iam glad she was OK, but doesn't another part of you think "way to go, that's my girl, look what she cam do"
So tell me exactly where you live, we will be on our way, I'm freezing here, I want summer back!

Thank heavens for guardian angels! And, we've all done it!! Anyone who hasn't "accidentally" lost or forgotten one of their kids at one time or another must just have a nanny or be in denial, LOL. I have a funny story for you but I'll have to send it via e-mail or the authorities might be alerted.
Hugs to the runaway!!

BTW, that is BEAUTIFUL sidestepping!

So glad she's ok!!! I've heard of so many kids with Ds who escape! I love your re-enactment! LOL

Look at her cruise!!! That is so fun! Justin is all over the house exploring too! If it wasn't for the snow (which means closed and locked doors), I'm sure he would be out wandering the neighborhood too!

Ella is doing so great cruising!! Way to go!!

Your heart must have skipped a beat when you realized she was outside on the driveway. Thank goodness she was okay!

Wow look at her cruising, she kind of zipped across the couch before one realised where she was, love the way she kept looking back to make sure the show she was putting on was being watched!!
And btw kids escaping is just part of growing up. She has her angel watching over her and anyway she probably knew thats she's not allowed on the road anyway!!!! I'm sure now that you know she's discovered the door to adventure you're probably going to be paranoid about it. But look at it from the other point of view and that is she's inquisitive, alert, interested and willing to learn more, hey that's the more exciting thing here.
Big hugs to your adorable escape artist!!!

My girls are 10 (Ragan had her bday dec 29) 8 (Catherine will be 9 Agu 13th) and 6(Brooke will be 7 july 30th) We live about 60 miles north of New Orleans. So if you do plan a trip to Dallas let me know and Im sure I can figure something out, just give me notice when you can, that would be fun.

I know how you feel..2 days after Christmas I woke up at 6:30 (am) & realized that Isaac wasn't in bed. I went downstairs & found him out our front door with my purse on his arm & our dog at his side. Thankfully our yard is enclosed with a fence, BUUUTTT...S-C-A-R-Y!! He's become quite the escape artist. We're putting locks on the tops of all our doors now, lol. She's a cute one, for sure! :D

OMG! How scary! I know the "what if's" would have scared the you-know-what out of me!!!!

LOVE the video of her crawling! WOW how awesome!!!! She is really doing great.

And by the way, congratulations on the hole closing in her heart! That's tremendous! That's a nice one to have crossed off the list!!!! :) Happy New Year.

I am sorry our paths crossed in the wrong direction. We still have family in Laguna Niguel. If we ever visit I'll be sure to let you know.

I can't believe she did that - but that is cool she is going so far in her adventures. She is cruising just like Carter - one day it just hits them and off they go - it is so fun to watch. We just made our new goals for early intervention and Carter's is to take five steps independently within the next six months - I think he may be able to do it!

Oh my,what a little toot,sneaking outside!
Great cruising!!!!So thrilling!!

Way to go Ella with cruising!

Pretty soon she'll be running out that door. Our glass front door doesn't always catch. Our cat is always letting herself out and in. The other day, Mattie was out on the porch. Thankfully we caught her before she had gotten too far.
