Broviac Line Is In!!!!

Sorry...no pictures tonight as I am in the hospital tonight and haven't found a way to do that yet.. Ella's surgery to put her permanent central line in was successful and uneventful. This line will allow access to a vein to be used for administering of drugs as well as for blood draws so that they won't have to do anymore needle sticks....hopefully!!! Poor Ella had to go all day without food. Her surgery was scheduled for 3pm which meant no food since her bedtime bottle the night before. Unfortunately, the surgery didn't actually occur until 5pm so her first bottle of the day was actually dinner!! I was waiting in the waiting room when the anesthesiologist came to get me. I had to laugh when we were walking back to recovery and I asked him if she was awake yet...he said "OH YES SHE IS"!!! Apparently, she was causing quite a raucous back there. That's my girl!!! She seems to have recovered fairly quickly and aside from being tired and hungry, looks pretty good! She is soundly sleeping now and I am praying that she stays that way all night!!

I have a request of all of Ella's little friends. I was thinking that it would be fun to decorate Ella's hospital room with pics of her friends. I am hoping that everyone could send me a picture of their little kiddos. If you are interested, please email me at adjvollmer@aol.com so I can email you my address (I don't have the guts to post it on here....sorry!). Thanks for your help and thanks for all of your continued prayers and comments....I just love them!!

You should be asleep!!After 11,you need your rest, which I so hope you both get tonight.

The Broviac, like Zoey's Portacath,we of course hate for it's purpose but life with that, for Ella, will be so much easier.Meds, blood, platelets, hydration and chemo ... all through it,means no more pokes for the sweet one.

"Hoping" counts are beginning to fall.Quicker to zero and then back up, means home for a re-charge.How great will that be?

Love to you all.Kisses to the warrior girl.

I'm so glad the surgery went well. I joke all the time about how uneventful used to mean boring - now it means a great deal more. Ella is on my mind and heart many times throughout the day and I continue to lift her and your whole family in prayer.

The very first thing to go in for Kristen is always the broviac. I love it. This is her fourth one, one for each time she was diagnosed with leukemia. This last time one doc tried to talk me into the portacath, he thought she would like to not worry about the bath and getting wet thing. I said, heck no! I want the broviak so there will be NO pokes to access. The only pokes is an occasional peg shot in her leg. Her line has never caused a problem. She does not mind her dressing changes, and I always watch when the nurses come in and flush it or hook her up, some are not as sanitary as they should be and I always call them on it. It is an open line to her blood stream. Hope you both can find some sleep.

Oh her sweet little face with her latest warrior markings. So glad for no more pokes for her. Now that we're back in town, trying to get a package in the mail for Ella this week!
...and Happy Anniversary (a few days late).

I am glad that is over!
Now, fight, Ella, fight, fight, Fight!...sounds kind of like a college fight song =)
A few quick questions...How long are you expected to be in the hospital? And, then do you have to go back for more chemo treatments? Sorry - I am not up on the routine.

Prayers and advice to Ella Grace's mom and dad. I pray that God will give you the strength and insight to continue to be Ella's best advocates in regards to all the medical procedures. Question and research everything to the best of your ablility. May God give you patience and understanding throughout this journey no matter how long it may be. My wife and I spent 6 1/2 weeks in the hospital last year with our precious Nora Grace, in the middle of it we just wanted get out of the hospital as soon as we could, in hindsight it was our last days that we would be with her. Stay as positive as you can! Sing to her, kiss her, hold her as much as you can, no matter how tired you get! Your love will help Ella Grace get thru this.

So glad the line is in - that sounds like a great thing to have to spare her from all the pokes and blood draws. Prayers still being sent from us here. I have your address from the Christmas card so I will work on getting a picture to you. That is going to be the best looking wall in the entire hospital - how could it not be with all those cute kids on it? Love the idea!

Hi!! God bless!! My name is Jan. I can relate to what you are going through because my dear cousin, that is 26 now, went through all of this. I took care of her a lot in the hospital. She was only 9 months old. I trust in the Lord and know that Baby Elle will overcome this. Please feel free to email me at janjon0817@hotmail.com. God bless and keep in touch. I will be praying for you!
